Justice Department Charges Son of El Chapo with Fentanyl Trafficking

Mexican government approved his extradition.

The Department of Justice has brought drug trafficking charges against Ovidio Guzman, who pleaded not guilty this week. Guzman, one of the four sons of Mexican drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, inherited the drug empire when his father was imprisoned in 2016.

Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador authorized Ovidio Guzman’s extradition to the United States. The Justice Department promptly arrested Guzman and brought him to trial for trafficking fentanyl into the U.S.

“The Justice Department will continue to hold accountable those responsible for fueling the opioid epidemic that has devastated too many communities across the country,” Attorney General Merrick Garland stated.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Attorney General Garland to seek God’s direction as he heads the Justice Department.
  • For attorneys in the Justice Department as they seek to prosecute drug traffickers.
